The last 6 months have been life changing. CBD has alleviated my anxiety, revitalized my energy levels, and, ultimately, has put me in spiritual and physiological equilibrium. As someone who suffered from extreme anxiety and stress growing up, I am forever grateful for the immense benefits CBD has brought to my life. To me, CBD is much more than a product, it is a natural way of being. Nothing brings me more joy than meeting others who share that very same personal connection with CBD such as Gabe Kennedy.
Walking into Inscape, a meditation studio in the Flatiron neighborhood, I was pleasantly greeted by a zen, yet modern, atmosphere accompanied by a unique collection of books and CBD products. At check-in, I was received by Gabe Kennedy, Co-Founder of Plant People and a passionate hemp enthusiast. Prior to discussing anything CBD-related, Gabe was thrilled to first introduce me to a unique meditation experience pre-interview. To my excitement, before the session, we were invited to take an optional CBD add-on to help us relax and hone in on our inner chakras, and then, together, we embarked on our 35-minute meditative journey. After the refreshing session, we waltzed over to the wall within Inscape, which carried his CBD collection, and began to dive into his company, its values, and the amazing people behind it.
Originally from Boulder, CO, Gabe was introduced to the CBD space at a young age after a debilitating ski-racing accident. Although very tragic to hear, learning that about his background rationalized why Gabe spoke about CBD with such an intimacy. Clearly an inflection point in his personal life, Gabe was enticed to explore CBD in many other facets. After studying the nuances of plant genetics, various extraction methodologies, and healing modalities, Gabe was inspired to share the benefits of CBD with the world. It wasn’t long after that Gabe decided that the best way to accomplish this was by tapping into the entrepreneurial side of CBD with his own business: Plant People.
According to Gabe, “[Plant People] is not using the same oil that everyone else has. You can’t find what’s inside our bottles anywhere else than inside our bottles. There is a level of attention to cannabinoid profiles, terpene profiles, extraction methods, plant genetics, form factors, and how those all impact the efficacy of that product. People are coming to us with real issues and we need to be sure to present them with real solutions and making that a priority is our priority. Rather than blocking pain through your opioid receptors, CBD interacts with your entire endocannabinoid system. The interaction is preventing the breakdown and degradation of other compounds in your body and, therefore, is impacting your stress, anxiety, pain, and inflammation without directly working on a serotonin receptor. [Plant People] uses full spectrum oil to formulate products so you can get as close to the whole plant material as you can. All of these components work together in a synergistic way to provide an ethical product.”
In addition to organically-sourced products, Plant People’s commitment to a life of health and wellness extends beyond the kitchen counter. Plant People is also very active in advocating for social justice and bringing awareness to the CBD and hemp industry by reaching out to communities regardless of non-violent criminal records, cultural background, religious belief, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic standing. Furthermore, in partnership with the American Forestry Association, Plant People plants a tree for every product it sells in the northern Rocky Mountains and West Virginia to help rejuvenate deforestation.
In closing, meeting Gabe was a true pleasure for multiple reasons. Above all, what I truly appreciate about an entrepreneur like Gabe is that CBD is much more than just a product. It is the manifestation and inspiration for a healthier and more stress-free lifestyle. Whether or not CBD ends up being something you try is not Gabe’s true concern. It’s finding the natural and organic therapy within alternative medicine and yourself to lead a life of health and wellness. For Gabe, just “make sure you meditate every day, move your body, listen to nice music, go outside for sunshine and fresh air, and having a nourishing meal.” That’s what life is all about. That’s what CBD is all about.
